It is my pleasure to offer you this Delft Wall Plate produced by Boch for Petrus Regout / Sphinx in Maastricht Holland.

Petrus Regout founded his glass and pottery factory in Maastricht in 1834 and became one of the most important Dutch table ware producers in the latter half of the 19th century until WWII. Since 1890 The text MADE IN HOLLAND was added to the factory logo and in 1899 the factory was renamed to Sphinx. In 1959 Sphinx/Regout merged with Société Ceramique de Maestricht. The factory stopped production of this type of pottery in 1969.

As a result of the spliting up og the Nether Lands in Holland and Belgium in 1830 the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg was allotted to Holland. From that moment high export duties were imposed on the products for the Belgium market that left the Luxemburg Boch factory in Septfontaines. So in 1841 Jean Francois BOCH decided to start a new factory in Belgium (Kéramis St. Vaast close to La Louvière) and his son Victor Boch became the first director in 1844.
This Boch factory was succesfull in various periods of its lifetime: in the 19th century because of its handpainted Delft under BFK, later with the art nouveau and deco items of Charles Catteau and Raymond Chevallier.

In the midst of the 20th century the competition between Sphinx/Regout and Boch in the market of Delftware was huge. They often produced wallplates with decors without a copyright which resulted in nearly identical overlap products.

When Regout stopped production of this type of pottery in 1969, production of these plates was contracted to the BOCH Pottery in La Louvière.
So this plate is marked with the BOCH BELGIUM logo that includes the text "Made for ROYAL SPHINX Holland" and a scripted text: DELFTS. Boch used this mark until 1979.

DIMENSIONS: Diameter is 10 inches.

CONDITION: EXCELLENT. This plate is in PERFECT condition. No cracks, chips, flakes or any other flaws.

The white spots on some pictures are the reflection of my photo lights.
