It is my pleasure to offer you this DELFT BLUE JUG produced by OUD DELFT in The Netherlands. This jug is a copy of a medieval one and was produced to fund the restoration of the historic city of WILLIAMSBURG.
Williamsburg, Virginia, was the colonial capital of the largest, wealthiest, and most populous outpost of the British Empire in North America. Here the ideas of liberty and equality, of representative government, of justice, and of the rights and the responsibilities of individuals within a society were conceived decades before the United States of America was born.
On May 15, 1776, Virginians meeting at the Capitol passed the Virginia Resolution for Independence which was the start of the independence from Great Britain of all 13 colonies. One month later the Virginia Declaration of Rights was adopted, which emphasized individual liberty and self-government. This document became the basis of the United States Bill of Rights, which still protects the basic freedoms of Americans today.
This vase also is marked with the Williamsburg Restoration logo.
