Product Description

It is my pleasure to offer you this Colorful Gouda Jug produced by The Royal Plateelbakkerij Zuid Holland P.Z.H.

Plateelfabriek Zuid Holland in Gouda was by far the biggest pottery in Gouda and put the town on the ceramics map of the world. Its products still are very popular amongst collectors because of its colourful decorative collection in the early years of last century.
Its lifespan of 67 years started in 1898 by founding father Egbert Estié and they produced not only brilliant artistry but also thousands of mass produced articles. The first decade was characterized by influences (say copies or imitations) of Brantjes and Rozenburg: several of their best designers and painters were snatched away by PZH. But soon renowned designers like Chris Lanooy, Henri Breetvelt and Chris van der Hoef were involved and new production and glazing techniques were applied to make more beautiful but less expensive items.

It is a pity that this factory that produced all that colorful Gouda Pottery had to close its doors in 1965. Its production methods were too expensive, mainly because of they sticked to 100% handpainting for all items. Many moulds of this factory have been taken over by Goedewaagen.

This is a jug of the latest period. Fully marked at the bottom.

AGE: 1950-1960

DIMENSIONS: Height is 7.5 inches.

CONDITION: EXCELLENT. This jug is in PERFECT condition. No cracks, chips, flakes or any other flaws.
