It is my pleasure to offer you this extravagant huge handpainted vase. This polychrome vase was produced by Velsen Art-pottery in The Netherlands. It shows an abundant floral pattern with a tropical bird which is repeated three times all around.
1920 was a very turbulent year for the Dutch Pottery industry. A kind of revival after the first world war. Many factories were founded in that year. One of them was De Kennemer Pottenbakkerij and in 1936 the name was changed into Velsen. After bankruptcy in 1939 two former P.Z.H.-painters, Johannes G. van Vliet and Leendert H. de Vrind restarted the factory in 1942.
From that time Velsen produced a good quality handpainted Delftware. The Velsen mark was handpainted until the mid eighties when they switched to a stylized printed mark. In 1993 the factory burned down and production of handpainted delft was stopped.
This jar has an original brass lid and is fully marked on the bottom side with the factory logo (intertwined VLS), the mould# 10012, the painters initial K, Delfts Blauw, Handpainted, and Made in Holland.
I included a picture showing one of the Velsen employees busy with a vase like this.
