Product Description

It is my pleasure to offer you this Monumental Delft Polychrome Bird Vase produced by Pottenbakkerij VELSEN in Holland.

1920 was a very turbulent year for the Dutch Pottery industry. A kind of revival after the first world war. Many factories were founded in that year. One of them was De Kennemer Pottenbakkerij and in 1936 the name was changed into Velsen. After bankruptcy in 1939 two former P.Z.H.-painters, Johannes G. van Vliet and Leendert H. de Vrind restarted the factory in 1942.

From that time Velsen produced a good quality handpainted Delftware. The Velsen mark was handpainted until the mid eighties when they switched to a stylized printed mark. In 1993 the factory burned down and production of handpainted delft was stopped.

This vase shows the purple and orange colours that no Deft factory could make but Velsen.

This really huge vase is 100% hand painted and fully marked on the bottom side with the factory logo (intertwined VLS), the mould# 790, the painters initial HV, Polychrome, Hand-painted, and Made in Holland.

AGE: 1960-1970

DIMENSIONS: Height is 23.5 inches (=60 cm), widest diameter is 12 inches.

CONDITION: EXCELLENT. This vase is in PERFECT condition. No cracks, chips, flakes or any other flaws. A real treasure for any TOP QUALITY HANDPAINTED DELFT Collection.
